About Bed Rest Mom
Welcome to Bed Rest Mom. I was inspired to write this book to share some knowledge I gained during my six months on bed rest– both at home and in hospital.
The first time I heard the words bed rest I had no idea what they meant. An intensive search of Google only confused me more. In addition to my bed rest search, I was also trying to understand the realities of my potentially life threatening high-risk pregnancy with placenta previa.
I felt completely alone and confused.
Another high-risk pregnancy and almost four years, I was admitted to hospital to spend my last weeks of pregnancy incubating in a hospital bed. So much for my feeling of been there, done that. This was a new bed rest experience and I was away from my family. I also had two high-risk conditions to worry about (placenta previa and a suspected accreta). The isolation and stress had just doubled.
During my hospitalization I met some amazing pregnant women – also on bed rest. In the 43 days I spent with them, followed by 14 days with my son in NICU, I learned the true value of having a female support group.
Whether or not you have the support of family and friends, your bed rest experience is unique to you. You are likely wrestling with fears and questions with no one to talk to. You likely feel all alone, having no one to talk to who really understands the realities of bed rest.
I hope Bed Rest Mom will help answer some of your questions and give you a glimpse of the journey ahead. If nothing else, know that you are not alone. Other women have walked this path and have stories to share.
